Job overview

Alfred Barrow District Nurses has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Band 5 Community Staff Nurse role.  This role will be 37.5 hrs per week and will include weekends, bank holidays, evenings and nights as required. 

We would like an enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 5 Community Nurse, who will be happy to work in an evolving district nursing service. The successful applicant will be committed to working closely with health and social care colleagues to provide high quality care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions in the community setting.

Applications from student nurses due to qualify and newly qualified staff nurses are welcomed from those who wish to develop within the scope of Community Nursing.

We are committed to the health and wellbeing of our staff and all staff will have access to regular clinical supervision, training and Occupational Health services.  

 

Main duties of the job

The Team is  conveniently based in Barrow ideal location for Morecambe Bay and the Lake District. 

The role requires excellent communication skills as you will be undertaking complex nursing assessments and developing and delivering programmes of care for patients and carers. 

You will need to work collaboratively with other professionals, voluntary sector and informal carers to promote excellent care to patients in their own homes and community setting.

You will be joining an enthusiastic and motivated team who are friendly and approachable. We are very patient focused and staff development is high on our agenda. As part of our team we want to develop all staff to the highest standard.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Level 1 registered nursing qualifications.
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration qualification or willingness to undertake
  • Wound care experience and knowledge

Ability and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of current changes in the delivery of healthcare.
  • Broad knowledge base of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Understanding of reflective practice and its application.
  • Demonstrate evidence to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate evidence to motivate team/peers.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate and awareness of current National and Local NHS activity within the acute and primary care settings

Experience
