Job overview
The Urology Service at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced, talented, passionate and forward thinking Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team as a senior clinician. We have a busy department which continues to expand following the planned opening of a new state of the art Urology Investigations Unit at Cumberland Infirmary this Spring.
As our senior Urology CNS, you will be already experienced in working in urology services and additionally have a sound clinical management background. You will have a minimum of 2 years experience in senior nursing, and a passion to continually grow and develop new nurse practitioners.
You will be an enthusiastic and inspirational leader who will drive the development of the urology workforce and operational components of the service across the two sites (Cumberland Infirmary & West Cumberland Hospital), supported by the Clinical Lead , Matron & General Manager for Urology.
You will be a skilled communicator with a passion for patient care, education and staff development. You will place a high priority on maintaining a supportive and caring environment for patients and staff and on developing the highest standards of evidence based practice and achieving key quality metrics.
Main duties of the job
- You will be an expert practitioner in all aspects of Urology, working within your scope of practice with a well-developed, advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability, managing all aspects of the patient pathway including prescribing appropriately.
- Maintain your own clinical expertise by attending relevant training courses, updates and study leave.
- Provide professional, clinical and operational leadership with a highly visible and authoritative presence, ensuring the delivery of excellence in urology services, audit, research and training.
- Collaborate with the Lead Clinicians, Nurses and General Management team and external stakeholders to lead on practice and research.
- Perform nurse-led urology clinics and diagnostics.
- Directly lead and line, manage the team of urology nurses working across both sites including staff development and performance, sickness, special leave and annual leave.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, annual performance reviews and ensure that all team members have a relevant development plan that meets the service and organisation as well as individual objectives.
- Provide workforce management and governance for the urology nurses.

Essential criteria
