We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated, compassionate, and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Outpatient Department as a Band 6 Clinical Lead Nurse, the post is 32hrs per week which will require leadership in both the Main OPD at Westmorland General, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Queen Victoria Hospital
Main duties of the job
As the Clinical Lead Nurse, you will play a key role in the day-to-day coordination and delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality nursing care across a wide range of outpatient specialties. This is a pivotal leadership role, providing professional support, supervision, and direction to the nursing team while promoting a positive patient experience.
Key duties:
Have continuing responsibility for the delivery of care needs and maintenance of Clinical Standards on the ward/dept.
Provide effective leadership and support to all grades of staff, planning and directing activities to provide the optimal standard of care
Ensure that the ward/dept is clean and provides a safe environment for patients and staff.
To deputise for the Ward/Dept Manager when required.
Participate in Directorate/site management responsibilities.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Providing visible clinical leadership and acting as a role model.
Coordinating patient flow and managing clinical activity to ensure timely, efficient care delivery.
Leading on clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement projects.
Supporting staff development through mentoring, supervision, and appraisal.
Ensuring compliance with infection prevention, safeguarding, and health & safety standards.
Working closely with consultants, AHPs, and operational managers to ensure the smooth running of outpatient services.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 1st level registered nurse.
- Recent post basic clinical qualification in relevant clinical area.
- Mentoring / assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
- Recent leadership development or willingness to work towards a leadership qualification.
- ECDL or equivelent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent relevant experience at senior level
- Evidence of clinical competence in speciality
- Able to assume a lead clinical role as appropriate
- Understanding of the setting and monitoring of standards
- Evidence of teaching and developing staff
- Able to work as a member of the multidisciplinary clinical team
Skills Ability & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to prioritise and demonstrate time management and organisational skills in managing self and others
- Demonstrate ability to obtain and evaluate information to aid decision making and to develop others in this area
- Ability to manage the care of a wide variety of patient conditions
