Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated & friendly clinical support worker to join our busy day surgery team. We as a department work over  3 levels of Westmorland General Hospital. On level 3 we have 20 beds  for pre and post surgery patients undergoing a day surgery procedure including a full range of surgical specialities. 

We also run urology / chronic pain clinics / ophthalmology surgeries from units on level 1 and level 2 during where you will be working alongside nurses and clinicians providing diagnostic services such as cystoscopies, precision point biopsies and outpatient one stop clinics. 

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in the Trust Appraisal and Personal Development
  • Plan process by identifying your own development needs and agreeing development plans for these needs with a clinical supervisor/mentor. 
  • Ensure awareness of when and how to report untoward incident and how to respond appropriately with patients’ or relatives complaints. 
  • Ensure that your clinical practice is safe and appropriate at all times.
  • Assist the RN’s in the benchmarking of clinical standards.
  • Ensure your required mandatory and competency based training is kept up to date. 
  • Ensures that own actions support equality, diversity, rights and maintain quality.
  • Participate in the continued development of healthcare standards and service development. 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general education
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 2 in care related area
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 3 in care related area

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with the general public
Desirable criteria
  • Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids.

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good basic hygiene skills
  • Ability to follow a clear instruction and feed back to senior staff.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative or with minimal supervision.

  • Awareness of the NHS structure and current issues
