Job overview

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, well-motivated Clinical Support Worker's to join our Gynaecological Nursing team on ward 16 at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

We have funding for permanent full time and part-time  positions available.

 

Main duties of the job

You will assist in a fully integrated Gynaecological nursing service covering inpatients, day case surgery and occasionally outpatients. Interest in women’s health issues, good communication skills and a commitment to providing high standards of care are essential attributes for the post.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Person specification

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general education- basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 2 in care related area
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 3 in care related area
  • Completed Trust Support Worker Programme
  • ECDL or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with the general public
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working with patients in a care environment

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (to understand and be understood).
  • Good basic hygiene skills
  • Ability to follow a clear instruction and feed back to senior staff.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative or with minimal supervision.
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of the NHS structure and current issues
  • IT skills to basic level
