Job overview

A rare opportunity has arisen within the Dalton & Ulverston District nursing team for an advanced Clinical Support Worker.  The post is for 30 hours per week over 5 working days and requires flexibility to cover days, weekends, evenings and nights as rostered. 

As a CSW in the community team you will be able to demonstrate excellent communication  with patients, relatives and professionals as well experience or willingness to train in a range of extended clinical  skills including but not limited to basic observations, venepuncture, skin care, wound care, palliative care, catheter care and sub-cutaneous injections. You will be working  seeing patients on your own in their homes as part of a close and supportive team that pride themselves on a high standard of patient care.

Main duties of the job

To provide basic nursing care to patients in the community setting working as part of the district nursing team. Carrying out an extended role of clinical tasks and skills Working unaccompanied. This will include but is not limited to taking bloods, administering medications via injection, wound care, catheter care, advice and management of skin conditions. Training will be provided in these areas.
To assist the Clinical Team with Data entry and administrative duties.

Liaising with the wider multidisciplinary teams including adult social care, GP's and hospital staff as well as patients and their relatives and carers.

As a loan worker, you will manage your workload, ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner and all tasks are completed each shift. 

 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To participate in the provision of a high standard of evidenced based nursing care to a wide variety of patients in their own homes or a care home setting. To provide clinical care as directed by a qualified nurse but not under direct supervision, e.g. certain dressings, catheter care, bowel care. To record patient observations, collect specimens, and perform some diagnostic procedures. To actively seek to promote health, both individually and to patients and carers. To participate in achieving measurable standards of care and to participate in clinical audit. To prioritise own allocated workload and deal with daily changes using own initiative. To deal with incoming messages for team and ensure these are dealt with appropriately and providing admin support as required.  To order stock and equipment and participate in additional clerical duties.  T o communicate daily with patients / carers / relatives, members of the primary health care team and outside agencies.
