Band 6 Recovery Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner
28.5 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse /Operating Department Practitioner to join our clinical team within our operating theatre complex at the west Cumberland hospital
NCIC has 2 hospital sites in Carlisle & Whitehaven serving a population of around 320,000 people. While based at one hospital the successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain experience in working across both sites. We provide theatre support to women’s health, maternity, breast, urology, vascular, colorectal and general surgery, trauma and elective orthopaedic surgery, and ENT for both adults and paediatrics. We support Critical Care inter-hospital transfers and specialist services within the Trust such as Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, imaging and the emergency department.
Main duties of the job
The main role of this post is, as team leader, to provide excellent post-operative care following the NCIC values and policies for all patients undergoing surgery within the Theatre Department.
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programs of care in partnership with the patient and the multidisciplinary team.
The Recovery Nurse/Practitioner lead the Recovery team to support the ongoing physiology and monitoring of patients post operatively. This includes both adults and paediatrics, emergency and elective inpatients and day cases also enhanced care pathways for gynaecology and Orthopaedics.
Demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.
Healthcare Professionals returning to practice, moving into new roles or changing clinical environments, may access an agreed preceptorship period.

- Registered General Nurse/ODP, with active NMC/HCPC registration
- NMC recognisable mentorship qualification.
- Relevant training at level 5/6 or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Further relevant training at level 6/7 or equivalent
