Job overview

We seek to appoint an experienced Band 6 Nurse who must have experience in community working and working with children and their families. Ideally you will have a working knowledge of ADHD and Autism. Candidates will be supported to become competent in the management and review of children and young people with ADHD  and supported to work in clinic settings as well as undertaking comprehensive assessments for a designated cohort of children from the neurodevelopmental pathway. 

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a real interest and knowledge of ADHD and Autism and a commitment to working in partnership with other agencies and local communities to deliver the best possible outcomes for children, young people and their families.

The post holder will be contributing to a comprehensive initial assessment process. The role will include supporting the team to oversee the management of children with a confirmed or emerging diagnosis of a Neurodevelopmental condition. The service is currently undergoing an exciting transformation and internal remodelling which the post holder will be invited to contribute towards.

The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of other staff within the team and contributing to a positive team culture.

Car Driver/ owner essential. There will be an expectation to work across bases within Derby and Derbyshire as required.

Main duties of the job

 

·         Assessing and interpreting the needs of this special client group, and determining the appropriate  clinical actions to be taken.

·         Working on own initiative with significant autonomy in terms of ‘on the spot’ clinical decision making.

·         Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to meet the comprehensive needs of children with ADHD, ASD and

        other comorbidities.

·         Manage risk, provide related  advice and make  necessary referrals to other agencies as needed.

·         Use a range of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools to aid and inform care planning and evaluation.

·         Formulate individual care plans based on the child’s identified needs, evidence based standards of care and working towards meeting the NICE guidelines.

·         Initiate appropriate and timely consultation and / or referral when the clinical situation  exceeds the nurse’s scope of practice and / or expertise.

·         Provide written reports.

·         Child protection – identify and respond to risks and maintain current   training in this area.

·         Undertake research and audit as necessary to the post.

·         To maintain current NMC registration, professional development and Revalidation.

·         To be able to travel a geographical area of Derby City and Derbyshire county.

·         Respond to the needs of the transformation and partnerships within the service including Joined up Care Derbyshire.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         Teaching & assessing Qualification.

·         Knowledge of implementation of Safeguarding procedures.

·         Knowledge of early support processes in the City and the County.

·         Post Registration experience of community working / working with school aged children  with complex needs and their families.

·         Experience of multi agency and multi professional working.

·         Experience of analysing complex data and presenting this in a logical format.

    Skills:

·         Demonstrate knowledge of and act in accordance with relevant regulations for this level of   practice and the NMC Code of Professional Conduct; standards for conduct, performance  and ethics.

·         Maintain accurate, high quality and contemporaneous electronic records and reports which  comply with NMC professional and Trust standards.

·         Ensure that personal practice is carried out in line with national and locally agreed policies  and procedures, standards and guidance.

·         Actively engage in continuous professional development and maintain a suitable record of  this development.

·         Promote understanding of the needs of children with ADHD, ASD and co- morbidities to  other health professionals, staff groups, agencies and the service users.

·         Create and maintain effective communication and working relationships between  colleagues, peers and key stakeholders from various professions and agencies.

·         Maintain Confidentiality and adhere to the trust Policies and Procedures in accordance to  information Sharing.

·         Receive and provide clinical supervision as required, adhering to the Trusts Standards.

·         As required, support the practice of students and trainees from a range of disciplines by  being available to share practice and knowledge.

·         Monitor quality of own practice and that of the Service and participate in continuous quality  improvement, via team meetings and participation in yearly Trust quality visits.

·         Participate in the management of change to embrace innovations and developments in the  forthcoming transformation within the team and its application to practice.

·         To actively implement the Trust Values and Trust strategies in your daily clinical practice and evaluate the effectiveness of this through supervision, audit and appraisal.

·         To develop, provide and receive appropriate training on varied topics and aspects relevant to the role.

·         Demonstrate the efficient use of resources, whilst contributing to decisions surrounding team budgets.

·         Demonstrate case load management for the service, ensuring time management and  organisational skills to improve and prioritise waiting times.

  • First level Qualified Nurse in Children’s, Adult, Learning Disabilities or Mental Health
  • Post Registration community experience including working with children and families with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of ADHD / ASD NICE guidance.
  • Experience of working in partnership with Psychology Services & Child Adolescent Mental Health Services.
