Job overview
We’re seeking a motivated and dynamic TYA Cancer Nurse Specialist to enhance and drive forward our Teenage and Young Adults Cancer service. This pivotal role sits at the heart of our cancer pathway—supporting patients throughout their treatment journey, strengthening MDT collaboration, and leading quality‑improvement initiatives that improve safety, experience, and outcomes. Actively ensure that the voice and needs of patients and carers are at the heart of all service improvement through online activity and face to face support.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
Lead, Manage and develop the TYA nursing service working alongside our Oncologists and Haematologists . To provide a specialist nursing service for patients undergoing care and treatment within Oncology and Haematology. To act as an expert resource and facilitator to educate and train. Undertake audit and evaluation and develop policies and procedures as required. To work as an integrated member of the wider cancer nurse specialist team. Demonstrates significant advanced knowledge and skills within speciality and sphere of practice. Take a lead role facilitating the planning and skills within speciality and sphere of practice. ·

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To develop the TYA service in line with increasing demand of cancer services. Line manages team members where appropriate including health roster, leave sickness and appraisals. Lead for service development to improve patient experience in specialist area Lead for education and training in specialist area. · Works autonomously to manage his/her own caseload of patients whilst working as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Acting as a source of advice the post holder will provide a clinical role for teenagers and young adults with cancer within the nominated geographical areas under the guidance of the Lead Cancer Nurses and in partnership with the site specific Clinical Nurse Specialists in cancer care. Be a Key Worker to patients who do not have a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Key Worker already in place. Actively ensure that the voice and needs of patients and carers are at the heart of all service improvement through online activity and face to face support. Contribute to the development, design and implementation of TYA Services alongside the Lead Cancer Nurse, TYA Nurse Consultant and Lead TYA Clinician within the specific geographical region in collaboration with the TYA services already in place at the Principal Treatment Centre. Work closely with the TYA Team and the site specific Multidisciplinary Teams locally and at the Principle Treatment Centre to begin to align goals and priorities between national and local modernisation initiatives relevant to TYA Cancer Services. Contribute to change in clinical practice for the benefit of the Teenager and Young Adult with cancer to include their carer, multi-disciplinary clinical teams in primary, secondary and tertiary care with guidance from colleagues in cancer practice. Help in planning and coordinating TYA multidisciplinary advisory team activities.

Essential criteria
- • Proven post qualification demonstrable experience.
- • Demonstrable experience of working with: -TYA patients with cancer/Paediatric/Adult Oncology or Palliative Care.
- • Demonstrable experience of supporting staff in a Multi-disciplinary environment.
Desirable criteria
- • Demonstrable experience of Line Management
Qualifications

- Registered Nurse

- • Demonstrable experience in teaching.
- • Proven post registration cancer qualification
