Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Chestnut Urology Investigation Unit as a Registered Nurse on a secondment/fixed term basis.
A Registered Nurse is part of the multidisciplinary team delivering direct care to patients and supporting colleagues to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan.
You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare, or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the Registered Practitioner, in accordance with the Trust values.
You will be responsible for coordinating and delivering effective, quality nursing care following a patient centred model of practice and ensuring area of work runs smoothly and efficiently. You will supervise and direct non-registered staff and learners.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
- Assist in the running of urology nurse led clinics within the Chestnut Unit which would include involvement in haematuria/flexible cystoscopy clinics, TRUS and biopsy clinics, the administration of intravesical chemotherapy/bladder instillations, flow clinics.
- To aid the smooth running of the unit by discharging patients attending for procedures and to provide overall support for the CNS team.
- Support with 2WW triage as needed and complete ward visits for post operative patients.
- Facilitating nurse led discharge for patients post procedure in the department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessment of patients nursing needs.
- Plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to patient’s health care needs.
- Assist in the running of urology nurse led clinics within the Chestnut Unit which would include involvement in haematuria/flexible cystoscopy clinics, TRUS and biopsy clinics, the administration of intravesical chemotherapy/bladder instillations, flow clinics.
- To aid the smooth running of the unit by discharging patients attending for procedures and to provide overall support for the CNS team.
- Teaching staff to understand and accept their responsibilities e.g. environmental cleanliness, maintenance and use of all equipment within clinical setting.
- Carrying out agreed procedures for the appraisal and support of staff.
- Promoting teamwork and inter-personnel relationships and encouraging others in the decision-making process.
- Assisting in organising and attending regular Team Meetings and participating in forums as required.
- Playing an active role in the integration of Patient and Public Involvement.
- Effecting change in order to meet changing patient need.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Valid NMC registration
- • Diploma/degree in adult nursing
Desirable criteria
- • Oncology module
- • Catheterisation for males and females
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- • Perform appraisals for lower banded colleagues or willingness to undertake training to do so
- • Proven evidence of recent Continuing Professional development.
- • Understanding of safeguarding principles
Desirable criteria
- • Clinical skills relevant to area of practice
- • Demonstrable experience within a Urology/Oncology or Surgical setting
