Job overview

The Torquay District Nurse team are recruiting a permanent Band 2 Phlebotomist to work part time  (22.5 hours/week) in our Health and Well-Being Team.

Working as a Phlebotomist within an integrated team will result in you working across the community this includes: Community Nursing, Intermediate Care and Community Matrons.

You will be delivering high quality care to housebound patients across the Torquay locality, work as part of multi-disciplinary team and in partnership with primary and secondary care.

Main duties of the job

  • Demonstrate an awareness of physical, psycho-social, cultural and environmental needs of patients and their family/carer when in patient’s homes
  • To obtain high quality blood samples from patients in the home environment
  • Responsible for planning and organising own day to day work tasks and activities within an occasionally unpredictable environment
  • To perform simple nursing procedures after a period of training/supervision from a Registered Nurse
  • To work independently and as part of a team, participating in team development when required

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an awareness of physical, psycho-social, cultural and environmental needs of patients and their family/carer when in patient’s homes
  • Patient comfort and well-being are paramount
  • To consistently produce high quality blood samples with the minimum of discomfort and disturbance to the patient
  • To function as part of the Community Nurse Team
  • To observe a personal duty of care in relation to equipment and resources used in course of work

  • Trained Phlebotomist
  • Full Driving Licence

Knowledge, experience and skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate written records
  • Basic IT skills/ ability to use ICE electronic system
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using SystmOne EPR

Specific skills

  • Previous experience of working in the home environment

  • Broad range of simple nursing procedures eg. Venepuncture, BP monitoring
