Immunisation Nurse

Band 5

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Immunisation Nurse within the Clinic Team of the Integrated Vaccination Service (IVS).

The service is continuing to grow and we are seeking a motivated and flexible nurse to join a supportive, dynamic team delivering vaccination programmes across pan-Dorset.

The role involves delivering a range of immunisations to diverse populations, including children and adults, across community clinics, acute Trust sites and outreach settings. Programmes include COVID-19, seasonal flu, BCG and perinatal immunisations, with further expansion planned.

The Integrated Vaccination Service plays a key role in protecting communities from vaccine-preventable diseases, reducing health inequalities and supporting public health priorities. The post holder will contribute to safe, effective and compassionate service delivery, while promoting immunisation and supporting informed patient choice.

This is a pan-Dorset role, with a base at either the Linden Unit (Weymouth) or King’s Park (Bournemouth), and requires flexibility to travel across the county.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

Please note visa sponsorship for this role is unfortunately not available. Ensure you hold valid right to work in the UK and will not require sponsorship if successful.

Main duties of the job

Deliver immunisation programmes (e.g. COVID, flu, BCG, perinatal) across community, acute and outreach settings in line with national guidelines.
Undertake patient assessment and administer vaccines under PSDs/PGDs, ensuring safe, compassionate care.
Support flexible clinic delivery across pan-Dorset, improving access and reducing missed appointments, particularly for underserved groups. Provide clear patient education and address vaccine concerns.
Maintain accurate clinical records and adhere to infection control standards.

Work collaboratively within the team and with partner services, contributing to high-quality, patient-focused care and ongoing service improvement.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of.  Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

For the main duties and responsibilities for this role please read the attached job description and person specification.  When completing your application please ensure your supporting statement reflects the criteria set out in these documents by showing how your experience and skills apply to this post.

We understand that using AI can be a useful and supportive tool when completing your application.  However, we have also seen an increase in the over-reliance of AI tools which is negatively impacting applications as they remove candidate’s individuality, and it becomes much harder to get a sense of who you are and your authentic experience.  If you do use AI, it should be used to enhance your application and not to create your supporting statement in its entirety.  If we suspect you have used AI to create your supporting statement and this does not match your experience, we may withdraw your application.
