Are you looking for a new direction and to join a team supporting Children and Young People with Diabetes?

We have an exciting opportunity to join our small, friendly children’s diabetes team in a newly created role as a Healthcare Support Worker to compliment our established multi-disciplinary team working to support Children and Young People (CYP) 0-19 years with diabetes and their families. 

Main duties of the job

  • Support the team in providing care to ensure the standards of Best Practice Tariff are met.
  • Contribute to the smooth and effective running of the paediatric diabetes clinics
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with CYP and their families, promoting a consistent team approach to the management of diabetes.

An MDT office base in The Children’s Centre at the heart of Children’s care in the beautiful market town of Dorchester. There will be opportunities to assist in the planning, running and participating in social events for CYP and families and for ongoing education and training. Attendance at the Diabetes Network Meetings and national diabetes conferences may be on offer to ensure you are kept up to date on latest information. This will be a fully integrated and valued role within the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To support the MDT in the efficient and smooth running of the Paediatric Diabetes Clinics
  • Support the MDT with providing care to Children, Young People and their families with Type 1 diabetes, including glucose and ketone monitoring, taking and recording height, weight and BP and venepuncture
  • Support the MDT in providing ongoing diabetes education to Children, Young People and their families, schools, respite and other community settings.
  • Undertake general clerical duties that may be associated with the smooth running of the department.
  • Participate with all team members in maintaining and monitoring standards and assisting with audits.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Grade A-C in English GCSE
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with Children and Young People (CYP)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a care setting
  • Experience of working with CYP with chronic or acute health care needs

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • IT Literate
  • Have an understanding of children's safeguarding
