Job overview
We have an opportunity for a Radiographic Department Assistant to join our team.
The successful candidate will work as a Radiographic Department Assistant within the MRI department based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, with chance of Princess Royal Hospital rotation.
37.5 hours per week (7 days a week covering 8-8 as core hour. Chance of cross site working
Main duties of the job
Actively participate as a member of the MRI Imaging Department team and
contribute towards the smooth and efficient running of the MRI Department
This is a dynamic, evolving role which will include coordinating the workflow in MRI, assisting radiographers and radiologists
The ability to work with in-patients and out-patients requiring imaging examinations
To act as trouble-shooter between the multi-disciplinary team to ensure timely imaging
Ensure provision of the highest standards of care
Assist the radiographers in giving individualised care to the patients
Perform caring activities such as preparing patients for their Imaging examinations and caring for patients following examinations, ensuring patients’ needs, privacy and dignity are met
Assist the radiographers with the care and preparation of the Imaging equipment, to include ensuring cleanliness of equipment.
Assist radiographers and radiologists in accurate positioning of patients for Imaging examinations
Assist with transfers of patients between areas, and to wards where appropriate
Perform administrative and clerical duties across the department as required, including reception cover, appointment bookings and data entry on all necessary clinical systems

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria. Please note applicants for this role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same role to qualify for sponsorship.

1.To actively work within the Trust policies and statutory legislation including emergency
resuscitation and manual handling procedures at all times.
2. Knowledge and understanding of Trust Policies on infection control, disposal of sharps
3.To maintain confidentiality of patient information.

4. To have an understanding of MRI safety. To be active in enhancing own knowledge
base to act competently and demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the
basic principles of imaging and its effect on the patient.
5. To have good IT knowledge of the Radiology Information System (CRIS), booking
patients on, confirming patients, inputting clinical details etc.
6. Provide clerical assistance in reception duties / booking office / coordinating.
7. To be competent in answering telephone queries, fielding complaints and requests for
urgent examinations and acting upon this information.
8. Assist with audits when required.
9. Ensure effective communication with patients and relatives, explaining procedures,
giving advice and reassurance.
10. Able to work physically demanding shifts, moving equipment and patients as required.
11. To co-ordinate the booking, preparation and transfer of in-patients with wards and
porters.
12. Check ICE for appropriate results prior to Imaging procedure.
13. Ability to independently manoeuvre beds, wheelchairs, hoists and x-ray equipment.
14. Undertake housekeeping duties such as cleaning Imaging equipment, disposal of linen
cleaning and tidying up etc. in accordance with hospital policy.
15. To actively participate in the day to day up-keep of stock levels and cleanliness of
rooms/changing rooms within the Imaging Department
16. To have a good understanding of performing aseptic technique and its appropriate
use.
17. To have the knowledge to appropriately prepare Imaging rooms and equipment.
18. Act as a second checker for the registered professional for administration of contrast
media.
19. After appropriate training, be competent to cannulate patients and remove cannulas,
observe patients who have had administration of contrast media and provide
appropriate care and advice prior to the patient leaving the department.
20. To be able to identify the deteriorating patient and seek appropriate support.
21. Participate in the supervision of junior staff and supporting new starters inclusive of but
not limited to new HCA’s, assistant practitioners and new radiographers including
training in patient changing, aseptic technique,
22. Correctly identifying and preparing patients for the appropriate procedure, including
adequate screening for patient safety, pregnancy checks and taking patient
observations.
23. To participate in resus trolley checks.
24. Participate as a member of the department team providing the highest standard of
holistic care and ensuring effective communication with other members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
25. Report any change in patient condition or any problem or hazard within the department
to the radiographer / nurse in charge.
26. Ensure safe transfer of patients whilst being aware of catheters, IV infusions etc.

27. To be actively involved in the procedures assisting radiographers to set up equipment
and provide support to patient during the MRI scan and assisting with patient
positioning.
28. Provide post-procedural care for the patient, maintaining privacy and dignity at all
times.
29. Assist with the equipment QA as required.
