Job overview
Band 7 – Urogynaecology Clinical Nurse Specialist
(or developmental opportunity at Band 6)
Are you an experienced gynaecology nurse looking for a new challenge?
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are expanding the specialist urogynaecology nursing service to improve pathways for those with pelvic floor and bladder dysfunction and seeking an experienced nurse to join our established multidisciplinary team.
The role is based predominantly at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, with the occasional requirement to support other UHS sites.
The successful candidate for the Band 7 post will be an experienced Urogynaecological Nurse Specialist who will be able to co-ordinate and deliver an expert nurse led service including vaginal pessary, bladder retraining, catheter care, TWOC and urodynamic assessments. They will also have a proven track record in teaching and education as well as service improvement and leadership.
For the right candidate, there is the opportunity to apply for a developmental role where the successful candidate will receive full training and support both formally through appropriate courses and from members of the MDT. This will be at Band 6 and experience in Gynaecology or urology is essential.
If you think you have the excellent clinical and communication skills, and relevant knowledge to deliver evidence based, high quality care to our patients then we would be pleased to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
Contribute to a specialist urogynaecology nursing service for women with pelvic floor and bladder dysfunction alongside the existing Urogynaecology Nursing staff, Urogynaecology Consultants, and the rest of the multidisciplinary team.
The Urogynaecology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will work closely with the Urogynaecology Consultant Team to deliver care according to current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecology (RCOG) and British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG) guidance, thereby supporting the service to expand and develop further.
The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical expertise in all aspects of Urogynaecology and will deliver an expert nursing service with their own nurse-led outpatient case load (including vaginal pessary management and insertion, bladder training, urodynamics, patient education, catheter care and management, medication management, post-operative assessment). The role may require developing additional clinical skills as the service continues to progress in line with current research and guidelines.
The post holder will support the Gynaecology Matron and Urogynaecology Clinical Lead by participating in the continued development and day to day coordination of the Urogynaecology service; this will also include at times supporting the delivery of the wider Gynaecology service which includes the Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy and General Outpatient Clinics.
