Healthcare Assistant – CTC Cath Lab

Our CTC Cath Lab team has an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our small, friendly and supportive team. This role offers the chance to become an integral member of the service, working under the direct supervision and guidance of qualified nurses and other healthcare professionals.

As a HCA, you will support the planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care by assisting qualified nursing and medical staff, as well as providing support to patients and their families or carers. This will be achieved through the completion of a range of clinical, clerical and domestic duties, following the successful completion of a structured programme of formal training and assessment.

You will be expected to participate in the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) programme, supporting your ongoing development and progression within the role.

Main duties of the job

As a trained assistant to the nursing team you will assist the qualified nurses and help with the delivery of holistic patient care, transport patients to and from wards or other departments as required, preparation of sterile trolleys as directed by the nurse in charge including  checking, replacing and fixing medical gas cylinders ready for use on trolleys, at least twice daily and be responsible for the return of beds/trolleys to their correct location.

You will contribute to the maintenance of a safe and caring environment giving clerical support when required, assisting the nurse in preparing the Cath Lab for the days work and between each case, preparing refreshments as directed by the nurse in charge, ensuring patients are comfortable in the department, directing/escorting patients and relatives/carers where appropriate to other departments and services i.e. toilets, refreshments etc. and if required record in writing simple details of care given to patients, whilst adhering to Trust Policy.

You will be able to circulate and assist the nurse in Cath lab during procedures and be able to partake in on call Rota for the Cardiac Cath Lab during emergencies.
