Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We are looking for pro-active and self-motivated Paediatric Nurses who are passionate about delivering high quality patient care.

Working in a Children’s Emergency Care setting can be a challenging but rewarding clinical environment.

We are looking for someone who is a good team player and will bring a positive attitude to the Trust and have a flexible approach to working.

You must have excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills and be able to motivate and inspire the staff so that collective strengths can achieve desired outcomes.

Main duties of the job

We are a supportive and encouraging department and you will be part of a solid team of paediatric nurses with different levels of experience.

This will provide you with the support  to make each day a good one.  We have a strong team of band 7 nurses working directly within the department as well as a dedicated practice development team which work wholly on enabling you to develop your skills and experiences and facilitate further learning and training.

We receive a wide variety of emergency patients, including trauma and medical/surgical admissions and it is exciting to say that our Children’s Emergency Department provides an independent Paediatric Emergency Nurse Practitioner service

We have a co located PAU department that is managed by the emergency nurses and a team of Paediatricians.

  • NMC registered Children's nurse
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • PILS or APLS qualification
  • Mentorship /practice assessor qualification

  • Experience in paediatric emergency or Acute paediatrics
  • Experience caring for acutely unwell children
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable band 6 or acting up experience
  • Experience in teaching or supporting junior staff

  • Strong clinical assessment and decision making skills
  • Ability to lead and coordinate a shift
  • Good communication with children, families and MDT
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and escalation
