Staff Nurse - Pasteur Ward

Band 5

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

Are you looking for a new role where you can make a difference to Stroke patients, our Pasteur Ward is looking for Registered Nurses to join its inclusive and friendly team where you will work with the ward manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care and staff development.

You will be expected to ensure a high standard of care is given to Acute stroke patients, post thrombolysis patients, and ensuring the Stroke Pathway is maintained and appropriate rehab is adhered to.

Our ward is located at Basildon Hospital where you will generally be expected to undertake your normal duties at the principal place of work, however, in the course of your duties you may also be required to work at any of the sites within the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust areas.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to provide and maintain the highest possible standards of patient care, to develop and maintain good ward management and organisational skills, to provide effective support for the ward manager and sister/charge nurse, ensuring self-development in the day-to-day management of the ward and under the supervision of the ward / department manager to work on delegated projects relating to local policy and service development.

You will work towards an awareness of service delivery plans, to be involved actively in the implementation of Trust policies and procedures at ward / department level, reinforcing their use and to maintain, update and develop personal and professional knowledge and skills, at first under supervision, using the Trust’s Performance Review System, enabling standards of patient care to be monitored constantly and improved.

You will ensure good communication exists between health care professionals and promote harmonious working relationships and safe working practices, ensure good relationships and communications with patient’s relatives by ensuring frequent contact and availability, give and receive patient centred handover and provide information and update ward staff of relevant link nurse meetings.

Working for our organisation

We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
