We are excited to able to offer an opportunity to join the Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team at Colchester Hospital in our Acute Haematology service. This post is covering maternity leave until 6th December 2026, part time 30 hours per week.
We are a dynamic team of nurses that strive to deliver high standards of specialist care for Haematology. We have a wealth of experience in the team to support you and we will welcome your skills and experience. Your development is also important so there are opportunities for your continued professional development.
We would consider Band 6 developmental roles. Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please ensure you have discussed this with your line manager.
Main duties of the job
- Provide a comprehensive service for patients with acute and chronic malignant haematological disorders and non-malignant haematological disorders. You will provide expert care, advice and support to patients receiving treatment on in-patient and out-patient basis and to their families and as a resource to other staff.
- This roles includes clinical duties the development and leadership of nurse-led clinics to provide for the needs of the patients and their families. You will also work closely and support the Oncology/Haematology day unit manager.
- The haematology clinical nurse specialist sits within the wider nurse specialist team and you will be expected to provide cross cover across the wider Haematology specialties at times.
- You will maintain an up to date knowledge base and will be expected to facilitate the professional development of nurses within the Division.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven significant post registration haemato-oncology nursing experience
- Experience of teaching/Mentoring
- Evidence of management and improving patient experience
- Experience in applying research evidence to clinical practice
- Evidence of advanced communication skills
- Ability to lead and influence change
Desirable criteria
- Experience as a team leader or equivalent at Band 6 or above
- Evidence of multi-professional working
- Previous experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist
- Experience of audit and research
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse First level
- Relevant post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant subject
- Teaching assessment qualification
- Advanced communications skills training or prepared to work towards
- Evidence of continued professional development

- Evidence of Masters learning or preparing to work towards
- Research qualification
- Non-Medical prescriber
