An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 staff nurse to join our team at 439 Ipswich Road, an assessment, rehabilitation and recovery service. This is a 24hr NHS Inpatient facility offering a Trust-wide age inclusive service for male and female patients suffering from severe and enduring mental health problems.
This qualified multidisciplinary specialist service is primarily aimed at service users with complex needs and provides a bridge between a hospital and community setting. It is able to offer the flexibility and responsiveness required to offer containment of risks whilst helping people to work on making choices and taking back personal responsibilities.
Service users typically have complex risk histories, issues of institutionalisation from long admissions and high levels of vulnerability.
You will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care in an inpatient setting, taking responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individual care plans. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will ensure care is person-centred and responsive to patient needs.
This role involves close collaboration with service users, carers, clinicians, and partner organisations, and requires participation in a 24/7 shift rota, including weekends and bank holidays.
Main duties of the job
JOB SUMMARY:
- Assist the ward in the day to day operation of the clinical area, and the development of the team.
- Work collaboratively as a Key Worker within the multidisciplinary team, acting as a role model for good practice; this includes liaising with associated professionals and other agencies, and offering support and guidance to clinical team as necessary.
- Ensure effective communication with patients, relatives, visitors and staff. To include the management of clinical risk, ensuring that risks are assessed, identified and care planned for individuals, and that any issues of concern are communicated within the multidisciplinary team, this includes environmental factors.
- Ensure effective communication with clients, carers, visitors and staff. Make effective use of evidence based practice in day to day clinical practice.
- Implement and ensure effective use of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act where necessary. Represent nursing team and provide reports for Manager’s Hearings and Mental Health Act Tribunals.
- Ensure safe standards apply to the administration of medication.
- Support colleagues in interventions relating to the management of violence and aggression, including de-escalation techniques and the use of physical intervention (DC&R techniques) as necessary.
- Ability to work flexibly over a 24 hour period in order to meet the operational requirements of the unit.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
In addition to the above duties you will also be expected to perform the below key activities in line with your job role;
- Complete mandatory training in line with Trust policy and procedures
- To participate in the staff appraisal process and to undertake for any staff you manage
- To keep yourself updated on all matters relating to Trust policy
- To provide management supervision where appropriate
- You will be expected to work collaboratively with key partner organisations, patients, carers, clinicians and other practitioners within the multi-disciplinary team in delivering services; providing a 7-day a week, 24-hours a day service for 365 days a year working shifts, where appropriate and operationally required.
