Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a 0.6 WTE Registered General/Adult Nurse to join our Adult Community Eating Disorder Service.

You will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team in providing high quality physical health assessment and providing care in line with local medical monitoring procedures and NMC/RCOT professional code of conduct and Trust policies.

 You will contact patients following referral, develop and agree collaborative care plans around physical healthcare needs alongside other members of the MDT who will be working with the patient. Assessments and interventions can take place in patient’s homes, team bases, hospital and other community settings.

 As required by your manager, you will participate in the medical monitoring of patients and liaison with the medical staff within the service. This would be for those patients within the service on the high risk medical monitoring pathway.

Main duties of the job

  • Having an awareness of the physical presentation of patients with Eating Disorders and undertaking physical health observations including ECG's and phlebotomy and escalating concerns to the MDT where necessary
  • Working within the framework of the MEED guidance
  • Being responsible for coordinating appointments and organising clinics
  • Participating in MDT discussions and collaborating with the wider team
  • Deputising for Band 6 Nurse Practitioner in their absence and providing supervision to Band 4's as necessary

Experience

  • One year of post-registration experience in community care
  • Understanding responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach, Mental Capacity Act, Clinical Governance, Risk Assessment and Child Protection
  • Evidence of continuing professional/personal development
  • Knowledge of physical and psychological aspects of eating disorders
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 1983
