Job overview

We are looking for a Band 6 Senior Theatre Practitioner to support the senior leadership team in South Theatres new surgical hub.

This is a great development opportunity to enhance your leadership skills, be integral in the running of the department and will have the opportunity to support with innovation. This post is integral to the effectiveness of South Theatres new surgical hub and provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated and skilled individual to play a fundamental role in the development of Elective and Emergency surgery at the Ipswich Hospital. 

South Theatres new surgical hub provides both Elective and Emergency surgery. The department provides 24 hour cover for Emergency Surgery and has 8 operating theatres, which consists of a dedicated Emergency and urgent surgery Theatres, and 6 Elective Theatres.

The department covers a range of specialties ranging from General surgery, Colo-rectal, Urology, ENT, Oral, Plastic, Breast and Vascular, Robotic and laparoscopic surgery.

The role is internal rotation with the opportunity of working in Theatres, Recovery and admissions with the successful applicant being the senior practitioner on duty and out of hours. The role will be working in both the new and existing theatres, for Ipswich hospital. This is an exciting opportunity with the newest innovation at the Trust being the introduction of robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Robot.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to develop truly patient centered evidence based care through their clinical expertise and knowledge and through demonstrating the leadership skills to deliver and maintain best practice.

The successful candidate will:

· Demonstrate their professional commitment to patients, their families and carers.

· Be committed to actively seeking the views of those who use and those who work within out services, and responding effectively to that feedback.

· Understand how to develop their team and workplace cultures to ensure the highest standards are maintained at all times

· Collaborate with a wide range of people and professional groups to improve the services we provide

· Be skilled in managing day to day organisational issues and challenges of both elective lists and emergency surgery.

· Be responsible and organise the effective planning of an elective list.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Adult/ODP
  • Evidence of Post registration qualification/specialist development.
  • ODP NVQ Level 3, DipHe with D32/33 or equivalent or willing to undertake
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma or working toward Health Care Management qualification
  • Undertaken or willing to undertake recognised management course
  • Specialist Practice Module level 2 or equivalent/similar

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent clinical skills within specialty.
  • Proven experience at Senior Theatre Practitioner level with knowledge of list suite management.
  • Team Development
  • Teaching experience
Desirable criteria
  • Proven experience at Senior Theatre Practitioner level with evidence of leadership and management experience.
  • Evidence of managing change
