Job overview

This position is offered on an Ad Hoc basis under a casual worker agreement, meaning there is no guarantee of regular hours.
 
This role involves delivering high‑quality, holistic, and individualised patient care that upholds each person’s dignity, beliefs, and preferences.
 
The post‑holder will contribute to maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff, while promoting effective communication within the care team and with patients, relatives, and other colleagues.
 
 As part of the role, you will support the development of students and newly qualified staff through mentoring, teaching, and assessment within their scope of competence, ensuring evidence‑based practice is upheld.
 
You will also assist in managing ward resources, including monitoring stock levels and highlighting or addressing any shortfalls appropriately. 
 
The post‑holder is expected to maintain a professional profile, continually developing their skills and adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant Trust policies. 

Main duties of the job

The post‑holder is responsible for delivering safe, high‑quality endoscopy care, using strong theoretical knowledge and clinical experience to make informed decisions, plan complete episodes of care, anticipate complications and take appropriate action. They support patient progress by identifying and addressing barriers while guiding and teaching colleagues to meet care needs effectively.

Excellent communication skills are essential for managing anxious or distressed patients and coordinating smooth patient flow. The role requires clear communication with staff in procedure rooms and across the Endoscopy team to ensure each patient receives appropriate, well‑coordinated care.

Clinically, the post‑holder provides specialised pre‑, peri‑ and post‑procedure care for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, assisting with complex procedures, preparing equipment, taking biopsies safely, and maintaining accurate legal documentation. They supervise and mentor junior staff, act as a patient advocate, and ensure safe monitoring, recovery and discharge. Competence in decontamination processes, equipment maintenance and emergency response is essential.

The role also involves complying with Trust financial procedures, ensuring safe drug administration and storage, and using clinical software to support referrals, discharges and pre‑assessment processes.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse with one years experience
  • Ability to maintain and improve care standards
  • Ability to challenge unacceptable behaviours and promote professional values
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Endoscopy Work experience
  • Experience of caring for patients undergoing Endoscopy procedures
  • Experience in Medical and Surgical Nursing
  • Clinical skills in cannulation, blood taking and IV Medication administration

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to proritise tasks and work within good time management skills
Desirable criteria
  • Basic computer skills
  • Familiar with MSE IT systems
