Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Full‑Time: 37.5 Hours per Week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our dynamic Main Outpatients Department.
We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and compassionate nurse who is committed to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care in a fast‑paced and varied environment. Main Outpatients provides a broad range of specialist clinics and services, offering excellent opportunities to develop new skills and broaden your clinical experience.
As part of our friendly and supportive team, you will:
- Deliver safe, effective and compassionate nursing care to patients attending a wide range of outpatient services.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure an excellent patient experience.
- Adapt to the varied needs of the service, supporting different clinics and embracing opportunities for continuous learning.
- Occasionally work within our satellite outpatient locations at Canvey and Benfleet, helping us provide seamless care across the local community.
This role is ideal for a nurse who thrives in a diverse clinical setting and is passionate about making a positive impact on patient care.
Main duties of the job
Undertake a chaperoning role as dictated by patient needs.
Attending satellite clinics off site as dictated by service needs.
Taking and recording of blood pressure, height, weight and BMI.
Testing blood sugars and urine specimens & accurately record results.
Able to prepare equipment for aseptic procedures as instructed.
Support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their dignity, respect, comfort and safety.
Undertake equipment safety checks and update Tendable.
Escort patients to wards and departments as necessary.
Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Ensure that the clinical environment is clean, safe and tidy.
Ensure the smooth running of clinics.
Undertake Nurse in Charge duties.
Undertake dressings in clinic.
To ensure that any identified problems with equipment are reported and the equipment is removed from use as appropriate.
Adhere to the Trust Policies and Guidelines for the Safe Handling, Administration, Storage and Custody of Medicinal Products.

Essential criteria
- Full NMC Registration
- Willing to complete competencies in clinical procedures undertaken in clinic
- Computer Literate
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- An understanding of working in the health care setting. Teamwork and working with changing demands and priorities
- Able to competently interact with a diversity of people at all levels ranging from medical and nursing staff to patients, relatives, different age groups, people with different ethnic backgrounds and beliefs.
- Aware of current professional nursing issues
Experience
Essential criteria
- Working within a team
- Experience of working in a healthcare environment with changing demands
- Experience in an acute clinical environment as trained or student nurse
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an outpatient department setting
- Previous NHS experience of working in an actue care environment and performing competencies at an advanced level. Evidence of link nurse duties or involvement in auditing and training.
