Job overview

Staff Nurse, Band 5 - Oncology  (12 hours a week)

We have a vacancy for a band 5 registered nurse within the Oncology Outpatient Team based at Cheltenham General Hospital.  We are a dedicated and friendly team that provides treatment and supportive care to a wide variety of patients with solid tumours and haematological malignancies in a day care setting.

In addition, we provide care closer to patient’s homes using the Mobile Cancer Care Unit; this vehicle is driven to 3 locations across the week in the county enabling our patients to receive their treatment locally. 

We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate nurses with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to help us to deliver outstanding treatment and care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

You must have appropriate experience in an acute setting and ideally to  be competent to perform cannulation, venepuncture and access central venous catheters.  (This skills can be supported ) Experience of administering chemotherapy and a recognised chemotherapy administration qualification is essential

Our Oncology department has a dedicated Practice Development Team that provides support and training for nursing staff; you will receive a full induction prior to commencing your new exciting post and on-going support with your career development.

Our multidisciplinary team work very closely together to ensure good communication for both our patients and staff alike

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio, registration revalidation & commitment to life long learning
  • SACT Course
  • Cannulation
Desirable criteria
  • CVC Management of PICC/ PORT

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment
  • Previous experience in a relevant speciality

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate experience
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery
  • Work with enthusiasm and genuine interest within the multidisciplinary team
