Job overview
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic nurse who would like to make a difference to both patient care and staff career progression.
This is an exciting opportunity to enhance leadership skills in managing a fast paced surgical ward in Cheltenham General Hospital. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will role model high standards of nursing care and demonstrate transformational leadership. Visible leadership is essential on the ward for clinical supervision management and supporting patient flow of admissions and discharges to the ward.
Main duties of the job
Provide high quality patient care delivery maintaining standards in accordance with UK law, the NMC, and Trust guidelines, and able to meet the revalidation requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse is to operationally and clinically manage Tivoli ward at Cheltenham General Hospital. Tivoli is a 21 bedded ward that receive elective and emergency urology admissions, elective gynaecology oncology patients and elective general surgery cases. The band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will be accountable and responsible for the 24 hour care delivery and management of the ward.
This will involve the line management of the nursing team to monitor sickness, appraisals and training compliance. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will lead the training and development of the nursing team to ensure clinical practice is developed and maintained and oversee the quality and safety of patient care that is being delivered.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse
- Recognised Mentoring and Assessing in Clinical Practice course
Desirable criteria
- Recognised management/leadership course, or equivalent level of skill gained through experience or commitment to work towards
- Recognised Nursing Degree or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of leading and managing a team
- Knowledge and experience of change management, quality assurance processes and working within a budget
- Evidence of development and evaluation of training resources
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an acute surgical environment
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates commitment to research-based practice and clinical excellence and plays an active part in the introduction of research-based change to improve patient centred care
- Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
- Passion for teaching, education and practice development and ability to professionally develop individuals
