Job overview
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic healthcare support worker to work with the Rheumatology Nursing team in an outpatient setting primarily triaging calls from the advice line. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the established nursing team contributing to the overall efficient and effective running of the department. The post holder will be required to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and deal sensitively with queries from patients. The department is a busy and expanding unit and the ability to be flexible and work under pressure is essential.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced healthcare support worker to join the Rheumatology nursing team. This is an outpatient service Monday- Friday with no unsocial hours. There may be a requirement to work at both Gloucester and Cheltenham main hospital sites.
Your main role will be to provide a friendly and welcoming first point of contact on the telephone. To triage calls, answer non clinical queries and recognise when to redirect and book patients for a nurse consultation. You may also be required to assist nurses with other aspects of the service such as group training and joint injections.
You should be organised, flexible, a team player and able to work under pressure.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities/Key Responsibilities
- To provide a friendly, welcoming and professional first point of contact on the telephone.
- Deal with calls and emails in a timely manner taking appropriate action as required. Triaging contacts to the advice line . Providing non clinical information and recognizing when to redirect and book patients in for a nurse consultation
- To book patients into call back clinics using the hospital IT systems accurately
- To record all contacts to the advice line and update patient records accordingly
- To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures
- To support the nursing team with the organization and booking of patients for group training sessions
- To assist the nursing team in delivery of group training sessions
- To assist the nursing team in joint injection clinics
- To provide nursing team administrative support to arrange medication for patients that are delivered via the homecare service

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE or Equivalent in English and maths
Desirable criteria
- Nationally recognised qualification in health and or social care
- Completion of a Care certificate
