Job overview

This role requires the provision of robust governance leadership, ensuring that the Division provides high quality services and is fully compliant with all regulatory requirements to deliver strong quality governance, in support of the Divisional Chief Nurse and Divisional Medical Director.

 

This role requires an expert or professional clinical leader, passionate about risk and quality governance so that they partner with the operational and clinical leads to deliver best practice, proactive governance. Using key route cause analysis to make positive change within the division.

Main duties of the job

·       Lead the Patient Safety / Governance agenda for the Division and ensure that the highest standards of corporate and clinical governance are maintained. Key publications to be adhered to and to coordinate the delivery of - National Patient Safety Strategy, NHS Single Oversight Framework and NHS Contract Quality Schedule.

·       Be managerially responsible for all aspects of the governance agenda, including being divisional lead for compliance with the registration requirements monitored by the Care Quality Commission

·       Take a lead in the Quality and Patient Safety Agenda ensuring that the quality of care in the Division, patient experience, patient safety and clinical effectiveness is of the highest standard, meeting national and local outcomes.

·       Be responsible for coordinating the implementation of actions and provision of evidence to support service improvement and compliance with organisational standards as part of the overall Assurance Framework NHS Single Oversight Framework and the requirements of the NHS Contract through the Quality Schedule

·       Ensure that the Quality, Patient Safety and Risk Management Framework is embedded within the Division and there is monitoring in place to meet the requirements of Annex 2 of the NHS Single Oversight Framework 2019/20.

·       Co-ordinate clinical and non-clinical risk management activities across the Division ensuring that there is a process in place where risk is discussed by the Senior Management Team and mitigations recorded.

·       Report regularly and liaise with the Divisional Chief Nurse on developments within the Division and organisation, learning from incidents, risk management, audit.

·       Monitor incidents/events recorded via the Trust reporting system relating to the Division in order to co- ordinate and communicate actions taken locally and disseminate appropriately any issues that could promote organisational learning.

·       Prepare reports for discussion at all corporate meetings relating to the Division.

·       Keep abreast of the National Agenda in regard to Patient Safety. Monitor dissemination of the Patient Safety Alerts and co-ordinate the responses to ensure that appropriate action plans are in place and actioned

·       Assist the Operational Management Team in the delivery of clinical performance strategies.

·       Take responsibility for tracking all complaints relating to the division in conjunction with the Operational Service Managers

·       Assist with investigation and action as a result of complaints ensuring that response timescales are adhered to or escalated through the management structure

·       Lead in the collation of information and metrics for the Annual Quality Account / Report for the Annual Reports and CQUIN requirements.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent qualification / experience
  • Educated to Masters level or evidence of working to this level / equivalent experience.
  • Clinical professional qualification

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant and demonstrable experience in an acute NHS healthcare setting
  • Evidence of undertaking senior/lead roles dealing with risk management, quality of care or patient safety issues.
  • Experience of undertaking audits/surveys/focus groups and change management
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multi- disciplinary teams
  • Specialist knowledge of all stages of the governance cycle. In depth specialist knowledge of NHS clinical governance strategy, policy and current issues
Desirable criteria
  • Practical experience of leading Clinical Audit
  • Experience in teaching Investigator Training.

  • Self-motivated and committed with excellent interpersonal skills, influencing and persuasion skills
  • Organised with good time management skills and able to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure
  • Excellent report writing, IT and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills & attention to detail
