Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in Theatre Anaesthetics at UHS, we are currently seeking experienced applications from dynamic, motivated, and enthusiastic Operating Department Practitioners at Band 5 to join our friendly and supportive teams.

UHS has 40 theatres, you will work across multiple areas including Trauma Orthopaedics, ENT Max Fac, Vascular, Thoracic, General and CEPOD along with Cardiac and Neuro. The team also works in X Ray, Cath labs, Angio suites CT and MRI scanners. We support our ED colleagues caring for Level One Trauma, we are an adult and paediatric Major Trauma Centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high standard of individualised patient care, in accordance with agreed policies and within available resources, which has the Trust core values at its heart. You should be able to demonstrate the aptitude to work in highly pressurised situations with maturity, motivation, enthusiasm, and common sense. 

-We are looking for an experienced ODP who is ready for the next step in their Anaesthetics career, is passionate and will strive to inspire, develop and support every patient, every colleague, every day.

-As a Band 5 ODP in anaesthetics you will have recent post- registration experience within an acute theatre environment.  

 

-You will be committed to working flexibly with the collaboration of an established team and will develop your critical care skills to become a competent member of the team who care for critically ill patients in a complex and challenging environment

Person specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse or ODP on relevant part of the register
  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Has the ability to assist in carrying out the transfer of a patient through the intraoperative phase of perioperative care, giving concise accurate handover
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the skills required to support learners in practice and to create a positive learning environment.
  • Practices and promotes the use of evidence-based practice
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute health service.
  • Understanding of personal accountability.
  • Aptitude for caring for the anaesthetised and/or acutely unwell patient.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching and supporting learners in practice.
  • Relevant resus qualification, ie Immediate Life Support
  • Experience of working within relevant care setting
  • Specialist theatre work-based learning course, or mentorship course, post-qualification.
  • Interest in research to promote good practice
