Job overview

Recruiting one candidate to cover Basingstoke and one to cover Winchester and Andover- both for 30 hours across 4-5 days Monday-Friday. 

The NHS Long Term Plan gives a commitment that all people who access maternity care that smoke will be offered NHS-funded tobacco treatment services. The Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor will provide individualised smoking cessation support to women and families in a flexible and innovative way.

The team will provide intermediate smoking cessation support throughout pregnancy and the post-natal period, using the support of interventions such as CO monitoring and Nicotine Replacement therapy.

Close liaison with local stop smoking services, midwives, Obstetricians and working closely with the Health improvement team and Public health department.

We are unable to provide sponsorship for candidates who do not have a visa at this time.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake relevant training to qualify as an intermediate smoking cessation Advisor and maintain the skills and knowledge as necessary through participation in continuous development.
  • Identify and work with clients who are eligible for intermediate intervention smoking cessation conversations in a variety of different settings. These may be in a clinical area or home. Deliver a client-led treatment plan in concordance with national and local guidelines, effectively.
  • Participate in educating pregnant clients as well as staff, about the benefits of stopping smoking in pregnancy and give support to those wanting to quit. Promote smoke free homes and support and advise clients and families about passive smoking.
  • Deliver Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring to a high standard and engage in the data Collection and collation of CO rates in pregnancy and post-partum.
  • Engage with the Smokefree pregnancy incentive scheme, keeping and maintaining accurate and up to date records enabling good data collection for monthly, contractual, and NHS Digital reporting. Creating, presenting, and submitting reports as requested to the SIP lead prior to deadlines.
  • Work closely with the local stop smoking services and the PH team to ensure the work links to wider strategy.
  • Plan and organise workload, this will include the management of a caseload.
  • Deliver one to one, drop in or group sessions, which will have emphasis on supporting clients from local communities.
