Diabetes Midwife

We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and skilled Specialist Midwife to join our dynamic Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). In this role, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based care to individuals with pre-existing or gestational diabetes. Working part-time within our busy Antenatal Clinic, you will act as a key point of contact, ensuring safe, coordinated, and person-centered care throughout the antenatal and preparation-for-birth pathway.

Band 6 experience within the UK is essential to this role.

  • Clinical Excellence: Manage a caseload of pregnant individuals with Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes, providing specialized clinical assessment, education, and support.

  • MDT Collaboration: Work seamlessly alongside Consultant Obstetricians, Diabetologists, Diabetes Specialist Nurses (DSNs), Dietitians, and sonographers to formulate and implement individualized care plans.

  • Education & Support: Empower patients to manage their condition, offering guidance on blood glucose monitoring, insulin/metformin administration, lifestyle modifications, and signs of complications.

  • Clinic Flow: Coordinate and run specialized joint diabetes antenatal clinics, ensuring efficient patient care and timely follow-ups.

  • Advocacy & Safety: Act as a strong advocate for the patient, facilitating informed choice and birth planning, while remaining highly vigilant to maternal and fetal well-being.

  • Practice Supervisor status
  • Evidence of further professional development

  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) related to diabetes, public health, nutrition, and maternal medicine.
  • Training in breastfeeding support/infant feeding and antenatal colostrum harvesting.
  • Training in insulin management, blood glucose monitoring, and diabetes technologies used in pregnancy.
  • Practice Assessor status

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of practicing as a band 6 midwife within the UK
  • Able to make appropriate clinical decisions in view of recent research, informed choice, and individual circumstances.
  • Experience in all clinical areas

  • Has participated in audit or research
  • Has participated in service development
  • Previous role caring for women with complex pregnancies
