An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Breast Care Nursing Team at Wye Valley NHS Trust

This post will enable the successful applicant to join a well-established, enthusiastic and motivated clinical team. There will be the opportunity to engage in further training and development to support the individual’s educational needs within the role. 

The post holder will work alongside the Breast Care Nursing Team to provide a quality holistic specialist service for patients with Breast Cancer from diagnosis throughout the treatment pathway acting as a keyworker.

Hours per week: 37.5 to be worked in a flexible manner to optimize patient care.

The post holder will work as a member of the Breast multi-disciplinary team within the secondary care setting. The post holder will support patients from diagnosis through the treatment pathway. 

Main duties of the job

Duties will include managing a caseload of patients throughout their cancer pathway, providing expert sensitive care and  communication. This will include supporting patients and their families at diagnosis and helping them to decide on surgical options when a choice such as reconstruction is given.

 The ability to liaise with patients, carers, consultants, GP’s and related therapists is essential; 

 Supporting awareness and health promotion and support for patients with suspected Breast Cancer.

The post holder will work closely with the Breast Nursing team providing cover for clinical commitments such as MDT meetings,  Consultant clinic sessions, Nurse led clinics and telephone and email  advice. As a member of the Breast multi-disciplinary team, you will be expected to have or be willing to undertake advanced  communication skills training.

This will enhance skills necessary in order to facilitate clinics and provide holistic assessment and complex psychological support to our cancer patients and their carers.

An understanding of the recovery package for Breast Cancer patients,  living with and beyond cancer and the specialist knowledge to manage our telephone triage service.
