Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Candidate to be willing to undertake further education relevant to the role.
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level III in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience
  • Foundation Degree/Diploma in Health and Social Care Practice or equivalent experience

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience in the needs of adults with acute health needs.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of health/social care work.
  • Previous experience managing caseloads

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to undertake personal care, maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Ability to undertake and understand physiological measurements and observations e.g. pulse oximetry and general obervations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal/non-verbal and written communication skills
  • Accept delegation and work without direct supervision
  • Ability to recognise own limitations.
  • A good understanding of confidentiality within the NHS
  • A good understanding of safeguarding
  • Excellent record keeping skills both written and electronic, experience of System One.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to care for individuals with urinary catheters.
  • Ability to undertake stoma care
  • Identify the individual whose skin integrity is at risk and undertake appropriate tissue viability risk assessment. Appropriate use of prescribed pressure relieving equipment and skin products
  • Administer pre -defined medications for specific patient groups in accordance with set protocols and within the scope of the Health Care Support Worker Advanced Role remit.

  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
