Job overview

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT) provides community-based healthcare services across the East of England with a value driven approach that is innovative, caring and agile.  HCT's Community and School Aged Immunisation Service (CSAIS) works together with other stakeholders to identify eligible individuals and provide immunisations in community and school settings, as well as providing dynamic responses to disease outbreaks wherever required.

The BCG/Hep B senior specialist immunisation practitioner is a vaccinating and leadership role within the community & school aged immunisation team.

The role requires experience of delivering BCG vaccinations in addition to other routine vaccinations.

 

Main duties of the job

·       Lead the local area team in the delivery of the BCG and Hepatitis B immunisation programmes. To support the local CSAIS team with other programmes, when required.

·       To feed into service evaluations and service improvements, growing the service based on the needs to the local populations, to include other clinic based vaccination programmes, such as the under 5s.

·    To work collaboratively with the Immunisation teams to provide a service which meets the KPIs and expectations of the commissioners.

·       To work with local statutory, private and voluntary providers and users to develop and  promote practice that is accessible and responsive to all sections of the local community, ensuring that services are targeted to the most vulnerable groups and individuals to support social inclusion.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To work according to the national and local guidelines on immunisations
  • Efficiently lead the BCG/HepB team to ensure a seamless delivery of the prgoramme
  • Management will include handling roatas, roster, leave requests, sickness and all other aspects of team managment, as required
  • Work closely with the BCG/Hep B EoE Clinical Lead and local CSAIS teams
  • To uphold the Trust values by demonstrating flexibility, dedication and care to team members and our service users and their families
  • Identify opportunities for meaningful involvement of service users and carers in relation to the development of immunisation services

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse, Midwife or other registered Health Care Professional who can administer vaccines under a national UKHSA PGD
  • Evidence of post registration continuing professional development
  • Degree in Public Health or equivalent.
  • An accredited Immunisation training course or equivalent
  • Current Registration with NMC, GPhC or HCP 02:55C and knowledge of Code of Professional Conduct

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable post registration experience in a related area
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to alter and choose communications appropriate to their audience.
  • Experience of supervising and motivating a team

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • In-depth knowledge of current local and national policies informing immunisation and public health Knowledge of clinical governance and its implications
  • Evidence of expertise the BCG and Hep B vaccination programmes
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Children and adults
  • Willingness to work across the whole range of vaccines which are available across the life course, according to the current schedule for England

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing service needs.
  • Creatively problem solve and address challenges in increasing vaccination uptake.
  • Support the team lead and wider leadership team
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
