Job overview

A Clinical RDA works alongside Radiologists, Sonographers and radiographers and this clinical role will include amongst other duties:
• providing reassurance to patients using the department
• giving information to patients about their examinations
• helping to maintain image processing systems and accessory equipment
• reporting any faults with equipment
• providing emotional and physical support to patients during treatment
• assisting the radiographer/radiologist with procedures, such as biopsies
• clerical tasks, such as booking appointments.
• communicating with all departments throughout the hospital
• data entry

Main duties of the job

Main Duties :

  • To prepare treatment areas at the beginning of clinical imaging sessions and to prepare equipment relevant to the examination being undertaken.
  • To support radiographic staff in a range of diagnostic procedures and examinations. Patients may present with conditions that may include the unconscious, uncooperative, incompetent or may have mental and physical disabilities.
  • To assist in special investigations and interventional procedures. To perform patient monitoring and have a working knowledge of specialised equipment. 
  • To explain examination procedures to the patient and give reassurance.  
  • To act as chaperone when required.
  • To assist consultant radiologists during specialised procedures which involve preparation of sterile trolleys using aseptic techniques, specimen slide preparation and accurate completion of documentation.

We are looking for a Clinical Radiology Department Assistant (RDA)to join our team.

All mandatory training will be provided and there will be opportunities to broaden your skills through in-house training. Annual performance review/appraisals are undertaken to enable you to progress your personal development within the department. You will be working with minimal supervision and must be able to adapt your working practices as the post requires

The post is based at the Lister Hospital and rotation to all sites within the Trust is necessary. Each day can be different and this is an ideal opportunity for a caring and enthusiastic person to enter the healthcare service. 

You will be required to work some evening and weekend shifts.

The departments house state of the art CT scanners, a 3T and 2 1.5T MR scanners, 16 ultrasound rooms, fluoroscopy, angiography and general radiology units.

Person specification

Qualification/training

Essential criteria
  • Good general education to GCSE
  • GCSE equivalent in English
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 in Healthcare or Customer Care

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of using computer systems
Desirable criteria
  • At least 2 years experience in a customer service environment
  • Previous experience of working in a healthcare environment
  • Good team worker in multi-disciplinary area

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good customer / patient care skills
  • The ability to work under pressure

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good understanding of patients’ needs and concern for their welfare
  • Computer literacy
