Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the specialty of Ophthalmology for a Specialist Nurse. We are looking for an innovative forward-thinking nurse to work within our Trust wide service who wishes to grow their clinical and leadership skills within this specialty and have the opportunity to develop themselves in line with their personal development plan.

A key expectation of the role is for the senior nurse to work competently at an enhanced  practice level providing care aligned to the four pillars of practice. It is envisaged that 100% of this role will be spent in the clinical area, as part of an agreed job plan.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work and develop further at an enhanced level of practice utilizing post graduate experience, knowledge and skills in Ophthalmology specialty. They will manage discrete aspects of a patient’s care in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, within their scope of practice, aligned to the four pillars of practice and aligned to Trust policy, ‘Enhanced, Advanced and Consultant Level Practice- Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs),’ contributing to nursing/midwifery/AHP practice which improves the quality of care to patients.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant post graduate healthcare experience, across a range of clinical specialties.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering high quality clinical care using enhanced skills within Ophthalmology specialty aligned to the four pillars of practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and facilitation skills

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration
  • Health related degree relevant to professional registration and area of clinical practice or holds L6 post registration modules with plan to complete degree program
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and/or recognised course/ qualification within Ophthalmology chosen specialty
Desirable criteria
  • Formal teaching or preceptorship, mentoring qualification including ENB 998/997, or equivalent.
  • Able to carry out intravitreal injections
  • Able to carry out Biometry

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of professional issues and current Healthcare relating to Quality Governance, NICE and CQC, GIRFT
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical Audit skills and experience relevant to role
