Job overview
The focus of the role is within the boundaries of Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT). The Safeguarding Specialist Advisor will have a key role in promoting good professional practice and providing all elements of the Safeguarding agenda under the guidance of the Named Nurses for
Safeguarding Adults.
You will take the lead in providing supervision, training, specialist advice and support related to safeguarding adults. The post holder contributes to developing the skills of the frontline practitioners, particularly in relation to assessment of risk, and report writing.

Main duties of the job
- You'll act as an advocate for adults at risk, raising awareness of their needs and actively promoting the philosophy that their interests are paramount.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices in the field of safeguarding enables the post holder to provide specialist safeguarding advice to managers, professionals and external agencies.
- Negotiate and inspire the development of a culture of safeguarding, robust systems and internal policies relating to safeguarding children and adults within KCHFT.
- Plan and monitor attendance of health professionals at safeguarding supervision. In doing so, monitor and assess the impact of safeguarding adult work on individual practitioners/caseloads, identify risk and communicate to Named Nurses for Safeguarding Children and Adults and service line managers.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills are essential to ensure the appropriate representation of KCHFT in public arenas, including court and case conferencing reporting.
- Work autonomously, organising and planning own work to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Allied Health Professional, Registered General Nurse Registered Midwife, District Nurse, Mental Health Nurse, Practice Nurse, Learning Disability Nurse.
Desirable criteria
- Supervision qualification/course - Teaching qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration clinical experience
- Experience of working with partner agencies in relation to safeguarding adults
- Experience of managing caseloads that contain adults at risk.
- Experience of teaching
Desirable criteria
- Experience of providing safeguarding supervision and or clinical supervision.
- Experience of participating/undertaking audits
- Court skills
- Report writing.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Advanced level of understanding of key government legislation and current guidance, relevant to safeguarding adults
- Knowledge of application of NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.
- Knowledge of frameworks in respect of safeguarding supervision
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of adult abuse and neglect and the impact for adults and families/carers.
- Knowledge and Understanding of MCA Legislation and DOLs
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- IT skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Must be able to travel around KCHFT area in a timely manner.
- Ability to plan and prioritise own workload and manage time effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
