Job overview
You will be supporting the service by ensuring equipment is disinfected and available to the clinicians and the nursing team to carry out diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. You will play a key role in ensuring that the unit delivers service in line with National and local Decontamination Polices.
To maintain credibility and flexibility as a competent practitioner in an ever-changing environment, while continuing to develop professionally in line with the demands of a responsive nursing service focussed on the needs of patients.
Main duties of the job
Your responsibilities will be decontaminating, maintaining and storing this equipment following Infection prevention guidelines. The organisation works closely with JAG utilising JETS to assist you to become competent in your practice
You will be a part of a forward-thinking enthusiastic team. Full induction (including four weeks supernumery) and training will be provided depending on any previous experience you may have. We encourage and give staff the opportunity to develop their skills and competencies within this specialty.

Essential criteria
- Recent endoscopy decontamination experience.
- Ability to undertake daily/weekly testing of AER’s in endoscopy.
- Evidence of maintaining decontamination competency portfolios for all staff groups.
- Experience of assisting during endoscopy.
Desirable criteria
- Decontamination qualification
- Experience of working in an Endoscopy Unit.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy
- Basic IT skills
- Able to problem solve
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
- Effective communicator
- GCSE English & Maths
- IT qualification, Evidence of electronic decontamination tracking systems
- Previous experience of problem solving.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- A good understanding of Endoscopy decontamination practices
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
- Understanding of the principles of infection control & decontamination.
- Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of audit & traceability of instruments.
- Appropriate knowledge of endoscopes & associated equipment.
- Understanding of GRS & JAG in relation to quality standards.
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of DOH HTM01-06 BSG Decontamination standards
- COSHH training
- Health & Safety Training
- Evidence of maintaining AER schedules of service & maintenance with in service level agreements.
- Understanding of END21 competencies.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good standard of secondary education.
- NVQ Level 2 or Care Certificate Level 2
Desirable criteria
- Decontamination qualification or willingness to undertake
