Healthcare Assistant - Acute Pain Team

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pain Team in an inpatient and outpatient setting as a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant.
This is across Darent Valley Hospital and Queen Marys Hospital so you must be able to travel.
Your role will be a mixture of patient facing and light administration duties, supporting the trained nurses and dedicated chronic pain secretaries.
You will be required to take part in multi-disciplinary appointments and group education sessions for the patients and their next of kin and also staff training days run by the pain team.
You will also accompany the trained nurses on the daily ward rounds assisting in the reviewing and assessment of patients referred to the team.
This is a small team and you will be working closely with all members including Consultants and other members of the MDT.
This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship. All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.

Main duties of the job
Carry out assigned tasks involving direct/indirect care of the patient, on a daily basis with the support of a qualified nurse.
Act as a chaperone at the request of patients and staff and accompanies them within the clinic or department/hospital as appropriate.
Maintain the patient’s safety/dignity during procedures in the outpatient department.
Keep an accurate record of patient care according to Trust policy and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Act as the patients advocate during consultations, investigations and/or treatment.
Report any accidents/incidents to the nurse in charge.
Be compliant with the principles for the maintenance of hygiene and the control of infection.
Be able to undertake other duties as directed, such as cleaning, storing and checking equipment and the tidying of clinical and storage areas.
Work across outpatient’s clinics on all Trust sites as required delivering the service.

Clinical Responsibilities: to include level of responsibility for:
To assist medical or nursing staff on the ward rounds.
Independently follow-up patients once a plan is in place.
To maintain the safety / promote a safe environment of patients/visitors and colleagues while in the hospital.
To help provide and promote a professional and caring environment for patients and visitors attending the hospital.
Assisting medical and other staff with procedures when required.
To act as the patients advocate during consultations, investigations and/or treatment.
Undertake clinical observations as directed by the Registered Nurse.
To maintain a thorough knowledge of the setting up and the preparation required to maintain and run a clinical session.
Be familiar with the medical equipment in the department and how to use it.

Education and Training
Essential criteria
- To demonstrate literacy and numeracy
- Good command of spoken English assessed at interview
- IT skills in order to access required systems such as electronic patient records
Desirable criteria
- Care Certificate
- NVQ level 2 in Health and Social care
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Is able to describe the nursing care required by patients requiring pain management care
- Can demonstrate the need to report changes in patients condition to the Registered Nurse
Experience

- Previous experience care setting
- Good communication skills
- Demonstration of a willingness to learn and develop

- Experience in an Acute Hospital setting
