Senior Lead Midwife for Education

Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated midwifery leader. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to join and strategically lead the DGT Maternity Education agenda.

The post holder will be responsible for strategically managing and enriching the integrated education and training plan across the maternity division. They will enhance and evolve a culture of shared learning across the Trust, Local Maternity and Neonatal System and ICS.

The successful candidate will oversee and lead the Maternity Education Team in further implementation of diverse and equitable teaching strategies. They will  successfully steer an MDT collaboration to fully implement in-situ simulation,  support the Maternity Transformation Programme and full implementation of Maternity Core Competency Framework Version 2.

Main duties of the job

The post holder as part of the senior Midwifery leadership team will be responsible for supporting and developing the multi-disciplinary team approach in Midwifery clinical education. They will lead, promote, and facilitate a safe and positive learning environment and no blame culture for all DGT maternity staff groups.

They will identify any gaps in the provision of education and training and be instrumental in the development and implementation of new education programmes,  ensuring local and national service objectives are included within the local maternity education strategy.

The post holder will report and represent the Trust and DGT Maternity services to NHSE, ICS, HEI and at service liaison level meetings, fostering strong system links and influencing midwifery education agenda at all levels.

As part of the senior midwifery leadership team the post holder will be included in the manager on call rota providing support and advice out of hours.

Person specification

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered midwife with post registration experience Degree in related field
  • Mentorship / teaching qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • NIPE, NLS, BLS or PROMPT equivalent
  • Working towards MSC qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Governance experience
  • PG cert Education
  • Master’s Degree or evidence of equivalent academic qualification
  • Qualified Professional Midwifery Advocate

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Policy context for Midwifery practice and development and Maternity Transformation and Governance Framework
  • Understanding of pre and post registration educational requirements
  • Good understanding of evidence based practice and its application
  • Facilitation skills
  • Ability to analyse and resolve highly complex problems where there is no precedent.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 5 years post registration experience of which 2 years’ experience in developing & delivering educational programmes across an organisation
  • Has successfully planned and managed projects in complex clinical environments
  • Successfully introduced new or updated systems to meet user requirements
  • Has acted as the lead specialist in both project management and change management
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies and procedures
  • A broad range of clinical midwifery experience and continued clinical practice
  • Experience of clinical and university teaching
  • Significant experience of managing, training and supporting staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Quality Improvement Methodology in practice
