Job overview

This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship. All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.

To liaise closely with the CNC in Heamatology and other CNS’s within the trust to ensure continuity of care for these patients establishing systems of effective collaboration.

See newly diagnosed patients referred for chemotherapy and provide support, information and contact numbers.  Demonstrate excellent communication skills deemed necessary for a good professional relationship to be established between nurse and patients.

Work closely with the Lead chemotherapy nurse to update relevant policies and procedures and negotiate regularly on service development.

Act as a resource to cover 24 hour on call telephone as part of the rota, liaising with the necessary multi-disciplinary teams as and when necessary.

Main duties of the job

To be competent in running nurse-led clinics in line with service need and patient review.  Pre chemotherapy clinics. Oral Cancer Treatments Haematology reviews

To ensure the safe administration of cytotoxic therapies, immunotherapies and supportive therapies within Pine therapy Unit unit  acting as a resource for patients and staff, ensuring they receive the necessary support needed.

To be involved in the implementation and audit of SACT treatments patients receive within the Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust

To provide a leadership role model to junior staff and demonstrate expert knowledge and high standards of clinical practice...

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • RN Adult Nursing
  • Recognised Oncology
  • Haematology course
  • Chemotherapy Course
  • To have completed the SACT passport
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship course Degree in Oncology Evidence of undertaking research

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experienced IV Access practitione
  • (cannulation and PICC placement
  • Quality initiatives and auditing
  • Clinical Governance framework
  • Knowledge of KSF/PDR

Ability to manage

Essential criteria
  • Proven management skills
  • Ability to manage team of nurses in the absence of senior staff
  • Ability to work under pressure confidently and safely
  • To assist Haematology & Oncology consultants whilst visiting Chemotherapy suite

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Level 6 with at least two years experience in Cancer care
