We are recruiting for a Maternity Support Worker who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
To work as a member of the maternity services under the supervision of registered midwives and nurses, delivering excellence in an array of Clinical and Caring duties throughout the maternity services, to all birthing people and their families who access the service.
Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of service users, always working in manner that promotes dignity, equality and diversity, through the adoption of persons centred care principles.
Main duties of the job
To support the delivery of high quality safe care to women and babies. The Maternity Support worker will undertake a range of duties including personal care, providing information and advise, health promotion, clerical, educational and housekeeping duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Maternity Support Worker is a diverse role incorporating additional skills to those of a Maternity Care Assistant. Undertaking Clinical and Caring duties, alongside but under the guidance and supervision of registered practitioners.
The post will be rotational with day and night duty working throughout all areas of maternity.
Working collaboratively with nurses, midwives, multi professional teams, service users and their families to provide excellent care.
Independently plan tasks and workload activities whilst ensuring that their practice is guided by standard operating procedures and established protocols.
Be able to prioritise workload and be responsible for planned care and tasks delegated from a registered practitioner.
The Maternity Support Worker will be accountable to the Midwife or Nurse she is working alongside, whilst maintaining dignity of patients and relatives, respecting their individual needs and wishes. Whilst always maintaining a professional and presentable image.
Person specification
Qualifcations
Essential criteria
- GCSE A* - C, or Level 2 Functional Skills
- Completed the National Care Certificate
- Holds a Level 3 Vocational Qualification (e.g NVQ or Diploma) in Healthcare or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Demonstrates the capability to commit to the development of the level 3 role and undertake the Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 if not already held.
- Can demonstrate previous experience as a band 2 level or equivalent.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a patient care setting, undertaking a wide range of clinical commitments.
- Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes.
- IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience working with Women & Children

- Minimum of 2 Years Experience in a Healthcare setting
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates experience as a Maternity Care Assistant
- Has experience of supporting and working directly with mothers and families

- Can demonstrate awareness of key issues currently impacting on the maternity care
Desirable criteria
- Can assess individual healthcare needs of women
- Can recognise deviation from the normal and knows what action to take by referring to designated midwife
