Job overview
We are looking to recruit a Maternity Support Worker for the QEQM Maternity team.
The successful applicant will be part of the midwifery team to deliver high quality person-centred care. Supervision and support are provided by Registered Midwives.

Please note we are only able to sponsor candidates on a Heath & Care Skilled Worker Visa applying for roles Band 4 and above, as Band 2 & 3 do not meet the minimum salary requirement from 9th April 2025
Main duties of the job
The MSWs will undertake fundamental personal care duties including: bathing; toileting; and dressing; as well as care for neonate’s personal needs. Supporting parents in the transition to their new family unit. This role includes supporting with infant feeding needs. The role also includes undertaking a limited range of delegated clinical skills care duties including: taking and recording patients’ and neonatal vital observations, blood glucose monitoring of patient and neonate; observing patients for sign of agitation or distress, wound observations and simple wound dressings, removal of peripheral cannula, phlebotomy and removal of catheters. MSWs working in maternity and neonatal environments, will be able to complete pregnancy testing, routine maternal and neonatal observations and clinical duties to enable the team to provide an effective and efficient service within the hospital setting.

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- Basic understanding of patients needs essential
- GCSE or level 2 equivalent maths and English
- Holds a level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care or has previous relevant/equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Completed Care Certificate
- Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation; short courses to undertake patient and clinical care duties, completion of a competency based workbook
- Holds a level 3 vocational qualification in Health & Social
Clinical skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with people ideally in front line patient care
- Basic computer/keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience as an HCSW in an acute hospital
- Competent in performing investigations & procedures such as: ECGs
Governance
Essential criteria
- Up to date with trust E -learning
- Adheres to Trust policies
- Will comply with the Data Protection Act, CNORIS, Caldicott Guidelines and local policies regarding confidentiality and access to medical records.
