SACT Sister/Charge Nurse (VDU)

Band 6

Job overview

We are currently seeking highly motivated Nurse to join our nurse led unit as SACT Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse at Viking day Unit  QEQM hospital Margate

Whilst this is a challenging role and requires someone who is flexible and adaptable to changing environments it is very rewarding, and rare opportunity and offers great career progression.

No one day is the same and draws on and enables the post-holder to use a variety of skills and expertise. You must like working with people and want to support the unit manager in making a real difference to our patients and families lives as well as make a positive contribution to the team and our service, while supporting the nursing team as they adapt to the changes within systemic anti cancer therapy.

Main duties of the job

The posts offer:

  • The opportunity to develop and maintain a professional portfolio
  • The opportunity to help lead the nursing service across the SACT unit to ensure a unified approach to care and consistent standards of care
  • The opportunity to work in the much specialised area of cancer services
  • The ability to manage empathetically emotional issues relating to stages in the patient’s journey
  • The opportunity to be part of a team that works collaboratively with all care groups to develop a service for the care and management of patients with cancer.
  • To gain the confidence to actively support Divisional initiatives and issues. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care in which they are competent, without direct supervision, and may be required to supervise and support the training of both qualified and unqualified members of staff. These are just some of the reasons that make this a ‘great place to work’.

Working for our organisation

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five
hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.

Applications for this role should be written by the applicant. If artificial intelligence (AI) programmes are used then the application may be rejected due to this document being an important part of the assessment process. This does not prevent applicants seeking appropriate support with applications should they need to for the purposes of any declared disability.
