Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to be part of our band 3 paediatric phlebotomy team. You will complete venepuncture and cannulation and ECG's on medical and surgical  paediatric patients at Royal Blackburn Hospital.  

Completing venepunture within an out-patient setting on both the Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospital settings

Main duties of the job

Ideally, you will have a competency and experience in venepuncture, and cannulation and obtaining ECG's, but full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

A bespoke preceptorship package will be offered depending on experience 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The service runs 7 days a week 07:30-20:30 on Blackburn site and 07:30-18:00 on the Burnley site, and the team will be flexible to work together to cover these requirements.
 
The successful candidate will be required to work across both the Blackburn and Burnley sites on a rota basis with the rest of paediatric phlebotomy team

Attainments

Essential criteria
  • Functional skills in literacy and numeracy or equivalent
  • Willing to complete phlebotomy training and obtain a competancy in venepuncture and cannulation in a agreed timeframe agreed with Line Manager and Practice Educator
  • Willing to complete ECG training
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of paediatric phlebotomy
  • Care Certificate or willing to work towards it
  • Competent in undertaking ECG's
  • Experience of working with paediatric patients in an acute setting.
