The post is suitable for either an ODP or Nurse with experience in both anaesthetic and recovery areas. This post is suitable for students who are due to qualify this year who will hold an anaesthetic qualification.

Main duties of the job
Accountable within the theatre team to ensure that the standard of patient care is of a high level, quality being of prime importance. To adhere to and practice within the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct and Health and Care Professions Council’s standards. Ensure adherence to agreed Trust policies.
The position is primarily a theatre anaesthetic and recovery practitioner although some rotation and flexibility will be required to meet service needs. The post-holder will be called upon, occasionally to take charge of the unit/area. The post holder will be expected to participate in internal rotation, weekend, unsocial hours and on call duties.
The post holder will act be part of a clinical team provided to ensure that clinical care of patients and others using the service receive an efficient and quality service. The post offers the opportunity to further develop clinical and non-clinical skills within the team. They will also be encouraged to obtain and maintain ILS and PILS compliance. Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Registered Operating Department Practitioner with HCPC or Nurse with current NMC professional registration
- Evidence of current and continuing professional development
- Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards
- Willingness to complete Intermediate Life Support

- Registered Nurse NMC professional registration with nationally recognised anaesthetic certificate.

Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience working in healthcare or clinical setting e.g. wards, theatres, patients-facing roles
- Demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and up to date clinical practice with evidence of critical thinking/problem solving with the desire to teach within clinical practice
- Demonstrates an empathetic, caring and sensitive approach to patients, relatives and carers
- Anaesthetic & Recovery experience
- Experience documenting patient information clearly and accurately with the knowledge of data protection and patient confidentiality
- Confidence in own ability to make decisions, work under own initiative and recognise own limitations within responsibilities of the role
- Experience communicating with patients, families and other members of the MDT
