Job overview

Bolton Hospital Foundation Trust are looking for a Diabetes and Endocrine Specialist Nurse, Band 7 for a full time post.  This is a unique post where the successful candidate would work full time split over 2 specialities, working 2.5 days as a Diabetes specialist Nurse and 2.5 days as a Endocrine specialist nurse.  Band 6 - 7 development would be considered for a suitable candidate.

 

Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous, advanced practitioner and effectively deliver an expert service within the specialist area both from an inpatient and outpatient base.

To contribute to a high quality integrated Diabetes and Endocrine service that provides care for patients who have a diagnosis of Diabetes or established Endocrine conditions within primary, secondary and specialist care.

To provide specialist care to patients ensuring both the patient and their families are fully informed and supported.

To  act  as  a  resource  and  educator  for  both  patientand  staff  in  a  hospital  and community setting, providing advice and knowledge in managing these high risk groups of patients.

Maintain  working  relationships  with  the  Diabetes and Endocrine  MDT  including Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Podiatrists, Dietitians, Support staff and clerical teams.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • RN/RGN Qualification
  • • Non-Medical Prescribing qualification
  • • Degree in health related topic
Desirable criteria
  • • Completion of Diabetes and Endocrine training courses

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Significant post registration experience with a substantial amount of this experience within the speciality of Diabetes and Endocrinology
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of working in primary care
  • • Experience of undertaking audit/quality reviews

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Venepuncture and Cannulation
  • • Provide high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical practice, care and programme management,
  • • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • • Experience of working in an MDT
Desirable criteria
  • • Development of education packages
  • • Endocrine dynamic testing

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Up to date knowledge of Diabetes and Endocrine conditions and treatment
  • • Knowledge of relevant NICE guidance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of the speciality area
