Job overview
We are looking for a Housekeeper to join our team on a rotational contract to cover Burnley Urgent Treatment Centre and Accrington Minor Injuries. We are part of a wider team which includes; The ED Department at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Accrington Minor Injuries. The successful candidate will be required to work two days between Burnley Urgent treatment centre and Accrington Minor injuries and may occasionally be required to support ED.
The main elements of the housekeeping role are to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff, and ensuring the delivery of cleaning, stocking, completion of daily checklists, catering and minor maintenance, together with other specified tasks to meet individual patient needs, as determined by the Unit manager/Nurse in charged.
The post holder will work as an integral part of the both teams. He/she will be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities/services in the department.
The post holder will monitor quality standards and rectify deficiencies in liaison with the Matron/Assistant Matrons/Nurse in Charge.
Main duties of the job
The main elements of the housekeeping role are to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Ensuring the department is clutter free, well stocked and the compliance of daily checklists is adhered to in all areas of the department to enable the team to provide quality care.
You should be comfortable working as part of a team and being directed, but equally may be expected to take the lead in some aspects.
Administration skills, IT literacy, prioritisation and organisational skills along with excellent communication skills are also essential for this role.
You will be an enthusiastic person, keen to build relationships across organisational boundaries to improve care for patients. You will be willing to work flexibly in a challenging operational environment, and have demonstrable experience of supporting service improvement. You must have exceptionally strong attention to detail and a willingness to work around the needs of the team and organisation.

Working for our organisation
Our Urgent Treatment Centre is based at Burnley General Hospital , Accrington Minor Injuries Unit is based at The Acorn Primary Health Care Centre and both units see a wide variety of patients.
We are part of a much wider team including the ED Department at Blackburn.
The Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital provides care for both adults and children who attend with serious illness or injury. Due to our large catchment area, we currently provide for approximately 154,000 attendees per year. The department has an 8 bedded resuscitation and 43 major cubicles.
The department is classified as a trauma unit and we have a purpose built helipad onsite that will bring our most serious patients to the department via North West Air Ambulance.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To maintain effective working relationships.

To assist the team to maintain the environmental and food hygiene.
To maintain complete confidentiality with regard to all patient issues.
To assist in monitoring and maintaining standards in the department.
To ensure general and specialist equipment, e.g. drip stands, commodes etc are cleaned as per cleaning policy by team members.
To ensure the department is safe and tidy at all times, e.g. remove clutter, update notice boards, signage etc.
To ensure together with the team to maintain upkeep of patients' cubicle/corridor areas.
The completion of daily checklists for waiting areas, cubicles, treatments rooms, clean utilities, dirty utilities, store rooms and patient kitchen etc.
Be responsible for the overall cleanliness standard of the department.
Ensure a sufficiently stocked department to meet patient and staff needs.
To identify any problems with cleanliness and report to the NiC.
To undertake, in collaboration with Domestic Supervisor, internal cleanliness audits and ensure action plan is acted upon.
To ensure there is sufficient clean linen to meet the needs of the patients.
Co-ordinate routine and emergency curtain cleaning.
To carry out monitoring of service delivery, especially related to cleaning, food, linen and the environment for the service needs of the department.
To inform the Nurse in Charge of outcomes of monitoring and agree action plans, ensuring action is taken.
To manage the departments defect call log book (Estates), ensuring all defects are logged, reported, recorded, labelled and closed down as services have been rectified.
To carry out regular equipment monitoring in accordance with procedures and in liaison with E.B.M.E.
To ensure the safe storage of equipment.
To keep a record of all equipment in the work area, ensure it's fit for purpose and track equipment if loaned to other areas.
To respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out housekeeping duties.
To maintain the safety of people's property and belongings.
