Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Treating Tobacco Dependency Service, providing specialist support to patients across our inpatient mental health settings throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria.

This is a vital role in delivering the NHS Long Term Plan by ensuring patients have access to evidence-based support for tobacco dependency. The aim is to improve the health outcomes, reducing health inequalities, and supporting some of the most vulnerable people. The successful applicant will become part of a supportive, forward-thinking team committed to improving both physical and mental health outcomes.

This role is designed to support patients within inpatient mental health services. Applicants must have previous experience of working within an inpatient mental health setting and are able to demonstrate the challenges, risks and opportunities associated with supporting people receiving mental health care. People experiencing mental ill health are disproportionately affected by smoking-related harm and experience significantly reduced life expectancy compared to the general population.

Main duties of the job

This role does not offer sponsorship

You will work directly with patients within inpatient mental health services, assessing tobacco dependency needs and supporting individuals to access treatment and specialist interventions to achieve a successful quit attempt. Support may be face-to-face, remotely or by telephone.

A significant part of the role involves building trusted relationships with patients during their inpatient stay, understanding the impact that mental health can have on TD behaviours, and supporting individuals to make positive changes. Applicants will have a good understanding of mental health environments and be confident engaging with patients who have complex MH needs.

This is a varied and rewarding role which includes delivering TTD interventions and advice, supporting access to evidence-based tobacco dependency treatments, working collaboratively with a MDT, delivering staff education and awareness sessions, supporting the implementation and ongoing development of the Trust's Smoke-Free Policy.

You will be organised, adaptable and committed to improving health and wellbeing. Strong communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships and a person-centred approach are essential.

This is not aligned to a registered healthcare profession, It is not suitable for applicants seeking a post that requires professional registration or to maintain registration.
