Clinical Skills Tutor

Band 6

Job overview

Are you passionate about developing the next generation of doctors and healthcare professionals? Join our Clinical Skills Education Team in this established role supporting undergraduate medical education within a busy teaching Trust.

As a Clinical Skills Tutor, you will plan, deliver and evaluate clinical skills teaching for medical students, working with Clinical Education colleagues and the University of Manchester. You will provide innovative, engaging learning experiences that prepare students for safe and effective clinical practice, including clinical skills teaching, simulation, assessment support and educational guidance across a range of disciplines.

We are seeking an enthusiastic healthcare professional with excellent communication and organisational skills and a passion for developing others. Previous teaching experience is desirable, but informal teaching, coaching or mentoring gained through clinical practice is valued. We will support your educational development within a welcoming and experienced team.

This is an excellent opportunity to shape the development of future doctors, share your clinical expertise and contribute to undergraduate medical education while building your own educational career.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Skills Tutor, you will plan, deliver and evaluate clinical skills education for undergraduate medical students, working with the Clinical Education Team and University of Manchester to develop students’ knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours for safe clinical practice.

The role includes clinical skills teaching, simulation and assessment, including core procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation and urinary catheterisation. You will maintain clinical competence to ensure teaching is current, evidence-based and high quality.

We seek an enthusiastic, approachable healthcare professional with excellent communication skills and a passion for developing others. You will be a positive role model, promote professionalism and compassionate care, and create an inclusive learning environment adapted to different levels of experience and confidence.

As part of a small, supportive team, you will work flexibly with colleagues throughout the academic year. Strong teamwork, organisation and adaptability are essential, including flexibility to support examinations and assessments, which may require changes to planned schedules.

Formal teaching experience is desirable but not essential; teaching, coaching or mentoring gained through clinical practice is valued. We will support your professional development and growth as an educator.

Working for our organisation

You will join the Undergraduate Medical Education Team within the wider Clinical Education Team. We are a friendly, supportive and collaborative group, passionate about developing the future healthcare workforce. We work closely together, sharing knowledge, experience and workload to deliver high-quality education across the Trust.

We value a positive environment where colleagues contribute ideas, support one another and develop professionally through mentorship, shared learning and development opportunities. We recognise and value the different experiences and strengths individuals bring.

We seek individuals who share our values and demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude. As educators, we recognise the importance of role modelling and maintaining high professional standards. You will be approachable, enthusiastic and committed to creating a supportive learning environment while representing the Clinical Education Team and Trust positively.

In return, you will help educate future doctors, work alongside experienced educators and contribute to a team focused on innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement. Benefits include NHS staff benefits, flexible working where service needs allow, training and development opportunities, and the opportunity to support the Trust’s ambition to become a leading teaching organisation and future University Teaching Hospital.
